December 10th, (a very wet Saturday) found us doing reduction work on a large beech tree at a farm near Langdon Court, Wembury. The purpose of the work was to significantly reduce the weight acting on the large bough on the easterly side of the tree. The tree had grown exposed to the prevailing south westerly so had a distinctly windswept shape. Our aim was to reduce the eastern side and maintain this shape as best we could, whilst making all the reduction cuts back to appropriate growth points. To achieve the required weight reduction some quite large branches were removed so there will be a follow up visit later in 2017 to assess how well the tree has responded to the pruning. We also carried out a crown lift on a mature sycamore on the same property.
